Roots Rock Rabbi is about 'Spiritual Core Building' - exploring deep spiritual process and relationship through a combination of traditional Jewish learning, rhythm and contemplative work. If we search honestly and strengthen our roots, our branches will grow true.

A teacher, drummer and storyteller -  Rabbi Avi Neuman believes in reclaiming the beauty and meaning at the center of Jewish expression.  UJC Jewish Student Chaplain for the south coast of England, he holds M.A.s in both Folkore and Anthroplogy, and enjoys being with people in creative spiritual process of all kinds.

Avi's search for ‘roots and soul Judaism’ led him to Jerusalem in 2000 where he met Debby - a massage therapist, doula and 'Jewish Spiritual Birthing' teacher. He worked for a number of social justice organizations in Jerusalem and began living deeper. From 2005-10 while learning full-time for rabbinic ordination at Yeshivat Bat Ayin, Avi had the privilege of developing hands-on relationship with the land of Israel; planting and growing organically. The power of that experience combined with his love of Chassidic Judaism and deep connection to traditional Nyabinghi drumming, gave rise to Roots Rock Rabbi.

Avi currently lives in Brighton with Debby and their five daughters. In addition to joyfully hosting, teaching, counseling and working with university students and the local community, both Avi and Debby are available for workshops, teaching engagements and private classes.
